September 2018 Newsletter

Wondering about local Neighbourhood Watches?

Have you been concerned about safety on your street?  One way that communities can come together is to form a Neighbourhood Watch group.

To find out if a Neighbourhood Watch exists in your neighbourhood or to start a new one, contact your local Community Police Centre. Your Community Police Centre can provide you with more detailed information, basic start-up assistance and resources.

Recently, a Facebook group has been set up to address safety concerns:  It’s Your City, Let’s All Help Make Orléans Safe.  Although this group is not directly related to a Neighbourhood Watch, you may find this helpful.

Have you been following the newsletters or Facebook group and wondering how you could get involved?  Are you looking for experience on a Board of Directors?  Come out to our September 10th Board Meeting to see how a typical meeting works, to ask questions, and meet current board members.

We would specifically like to have more representation for folks living in the Orleans Wood sector of our catchment – so if you live between Orleans blvd and Champlain St – we especially hope you will consider joining the board!

Come to 255 Centrum Blvd, room 340 at 7pm on Monday September 10th.

Volunteer Rink Coordinator Needed

Do you love skating or hockey?  Are you wanting to give back to the community?  Do you want to help people be active this winter?

We are putting together our team of volunteers who will keep the Community Ice Rink icy and wonderful for folks this winter.  The rink is located in Jeanne d’Arc Park (near St Moritz).

A key member of the team is the Volunteer Rink Coordinator who will help organize the team of volunteers and make sure that the rink is maintained.  If you would like to take on this volunteer opportunity, please email your name, contact information, and why you are interested to conventglenorleanswood@gmail.com.  A board member will follow up with interested folks.

Vote Municipal Election October 22, 2018

Are you wondering about who is running for City Councillor or School Board Trustee in Ward 1?  You can find a list of all candidates on the City of Ottawa website, along with links to candidates’ websites.

A recent blog post is one person’s opinion about the 17 candidates in the ward, check it out here:  https://stepsfromthecanal.wordpress.com/2018/08/28/tackling-orleans-ward/

There is also a Facebook Group set up by people outside the CGOWCA that might be of interest if you are looking for more information on upcoming elections at all levels. Check out Orléans Votes if you are a Facebook user.
